Overview

Waters, the world's leading specialty measurement company that cares about inclusion and diversity is seeking for a seasoned lawyer ( Corporate Counsel-Temporary) to join the Waters APAC Legal team providing support and advice directly to the India operation of the business, based in the company’s Bangalore office.  Working under supervision of Director – Managing Counsel, APAC, however, with a significant degree of autonomy, the candidate will be primarily responsible for a wide range of commercial legal matters originating from the Indian region and will be required to support legal matters arising out of other APAC countries on a demand basis. 

 

The successful candidate will competently handle legal and compliance matters while proactively engaging internal stakeholders to deliver the aligned outcome.  The candidate will need to embrace the challenges with the ability to anticipate risks and identify opportunities and work with various internal clients in a collaborative and inclusive manner.

 

This is a one-year temporary position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality commercially focused legal advice to the local organisation (including the Senior Management Team) in India and assist in the execution of corporate strategies.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of material commercial agreements, including, supply agreements for goods and services, distribution and agency agreements, marketing agreements, commercial collaboration agreement, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements, standard terms and conditions, lease agreements and vendor agreements.
  • Support routine commercial matters arising out of other APAC countries on a demand basis.
  • Identify and mitigate potential disputes and compliance risks to the India organization which arise from its day-to-day business operations.
  • Develop processes, policies and standard documents to ensure effective delivery of support to the India organization.
  • Support the India organization on the corporate governance matters.
  • Create and deliver training on key legal & compliance topics to the employees in India.
  • Handle disputes and investigations in India.

Qualifications

  • High-quality commercial lawyer with relevant post-qualification experience (5-7 years) in India and a proven track record in a reputable law firm and/or in-house environment.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of building a strong and collaborative relationship with internal stakeholders.   
  • Strategic thinking and capable of arriving at practical legal solutions.
  • Consistent delivery of quality work on time with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to drive independently with a sense of urgency.  
  • Proactive self-starter mindset and a strong team player.  
  • High-level of integrity
