Overview

Drive the implementation and continuous enhancement of the company’s compliance program across the region. Serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, ensuring adherence to global and local regulations while fostering a culture of integrity. This role demands a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in risk mitigation, policy implementation, and cross-functional collaboration within highly regulated industries. The ideal candidate will support and further develop a robust culture of compliance within a multinational, mission-driven organization.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the company’s global compliance program in Greater China, ensuring alignment with regional regulations and best practices (e.g., FCPA, China Criminal Law, China Anti-Unfair Competition Law, China Tender Law, PIPL, The Prevention of Bribery, Anti-corruption Act, Pharmaceutical Industry Compliance Management Practices by PIAC, The Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (HKAPI) Code of Practice, The International Research-based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (IRPMA) Code of Practice).
  • Manage end-to-end due diligence processes for channel partners, vendors, suppliers, and other business partners in alignment with global standards.
  • Deliver targeted compliance training to employees, distributors, and third-party partners, emphasizing anti-bribery, anti-competition, anti-fraud, and data protection requirements to foster compliance excellence.
  • Review high-risk contracts, gifts, hospitality, and sponsorships to ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Support the Director of Compliance in conducting internal investigations.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Compliance to design and oversee corrective action plans for audit findings, investigations, or compliance incidents.
  • Implement localized policies, procedures, and controls to address emerging risks (e.g., anti-corruption, data privacy, third-party due diligence).
  • Assist the Director of Compliance in maintaining and enhancing tools and technology for policies, procedures, due diligence, and the Ethics Helpline; evaluate policies and procedures in coordination with Legal, Internal Audit, Human Resources, and outside counsel, as needed.
  • Advise the business on compliance risks related to gifts, meals, entertainment, conferences, and similar activities involving current and prospective customers and channel partners.
  • Collaborate with key business functions to ensure correct policy interpretation, provide guidance on new requirements, and inform them of new business processes impacted by changes in laws and regulations.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, IT, HR, and Operations to embed compliance into business processes (e.g., procurement, sales, marketing).

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting, finance, law, business management, or a related field; CPA and CIA preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in audit, law, or a related field within a multinational organization, with compliance experience, including managing third-party risk; knowledge of the medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry preferred.
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of applicable regulatory and compliance requirements (including but not limited to the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, UK Bribery Act, and other global regulations, China Criminal Law, China Anti-Unfair Competition Law, China Tender Law, PIPL), with an understanding of how these requirements apply to the organization’s daily operations.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in office tools (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Experience designing audit, monitoring programs, or risk assessments.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to drive results in an environment with evolving risks and finite resources.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English and Mandarin.

    • Analytical mindset with the ability to balance business objectives and regulatory requirements.
    • Inquisitive, curious, detail-oriented, and critical thinker.
    • Excellent communication skills for engaging stakeholders at different levels.
    • Strong executive business and financial acumen, with a demonstrated understanding of core business functions and associated processes.
    • Highly motivated with the ability to be proactive, adaptive to change, accountable, and complete projects in a professional and timely manner.
    • Ability to influence and drive compliance in a matrixed organization.
