Overview

Come help us research and develop state-of-the-art instruments for drug discovery, testing and food safety! The Waters Global Research department is exploring next-generation capabilities that will stretch your creative talents. Our aim is to enhance our customers’ user experience by building more intelligent liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments for a broad range of applications such as pharmaceutical discovery and drug testing laboratories.

 

The role of this Principal Software Engineer involves both technical and leadership, about 50% time required for each. The technical role will be to develop applications that interface with data systems, to design and develop APIs that allow data and results to be exposed by those applications, and to update and modify instrument firmware and UI as required to achieve a level of simplicity suitable for the end user. The Global Research group is also working on machine learning models and cloud computing solutions – opening the door to possible opportunities in these spaces.

 

This role will also provide the opportunity to develop your leadership skills by heading up our growing team of researcher software and machine learning engineers based in Bangalore as a Group Lead. As a leader, you will be responsible for regular interaction with the Global Research management team, based in the US and the UK, professional development of staff, and regular performance evaluation. Mentorship and training for this leadership component will be provided from the commencement of the role, with responsibility for the Bangalore Research team assumed after a suitable period.

 

We seek someone with a growth mindset who is self-motivated, a problem solver, and someone energized by working at the nexus of leading-edge software and hardware development.This position will follow a hybrid model work approach( 3 days a week , Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday working from GCC office, RMZ ecoworld, Bellandur, Bangalore) and rest two days from home.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities (technical):

  • Build tools in C#.NET and C++ that control and extract data from instruments.
  • Use single-board computers to add functionality to or control instruments, writing code in Python on Linux OS and Arduino Sketches as examples.
  • Maintain codebase: use OOP and/or FP best practices, write unit tests, etc.
  • Lead standups, review team members’ code, and help others with troubleshooting.

Responsibilities (management):

  • Provide career guidance, and assistance in recruiting efforts.
  • Gather feedback for team members, deliver performance reviews.
  • Support administrative tasks, and communicate and implement policies and procedures.
  • Regular participation in management meetings, developing new policies and initiatives, allocating team resources.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and at least 8 -12 years relevant work experience, or equivalent.
  • Solid experience in building .NET applications, and proficiency in C++.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented or functional programming best practices.
  • Comfortable with Git version control, and testing best practices.
  • Comfortable discovering and driving new capabilities, solutions, and programming best practices from blogs, white papers, and other technical documentation.
  • Excellent global stake holder management skills
  • Should possess excellent English communication and presentation skills.

 Desired (considered a plus) Qualifications:

  • Experience building applications for data science applications.
  • Experience with scientific data and algorithms development.
