Data Platforms BI & Reporting Manager

Waters is seeking an experienced Data Platforms BI & Reporting Manager to lead the strategy, development, governance, and operations of enterprise reporting solutions. This role combines people leadership, Power BI expertise (development + administration), SAP S/4HANA Datasphere experience, business analysis, and domain knowledge in Bioscience & Lifescience.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years in a leadership or management role, with demonstrated capability to lead and mentor senior BI and analytics developers. This role provides direction across reporting platforms, SAP S/4 Datasphere–based analytics, requirements management, analytics delivery, business partnering, and Power BI governance.

This leader will manage a team of senior reporting analysts and developers, while partnering closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and scientific experts to deliver accurate, scalable, and actionable insights across the organization.

1. Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and oversee a team of senior Reporting Analysts, Business Analysts, and Power BI Developers.
• Provide technical and delivery leadership to experienced developers, reviewing designs, models, and architectural decisions.
• Define roadmap, priorities, and delivery plans for reporting, analytics, and SAP S/4 Datasphere–driven initiatives.
• Oversee workload distribution, sprint planning, delivery quality, and performance management.
• Establish best practices and operating models for BI development, SAP analytics, and production support.
• Drive a culture of data literacy, self-service BI, architectural rigor, and continuous improvement.

2. Power BI Development & Architecture

• Oversee the end-to-end Power BI report and dashboard development lifecycle.
• Ensure high-quality data modeling, DAX development, visualization standards, usability design, and reusability.
• Guide senior developers on complex data models, performance optimization, and advanced analytics patterns.
• Work closely with business teams to translate analytical requirements into scalable BI solutions.
• Troubleshoot refresh failures and performance issues for enterprise datasets.
• Implement optimization practices for dataset performance, refresh schedules, and report load times.
• Own versioning, deployment pipelines, and release management across dev/test/prod environments.

3. Power BI Administration & Governance

• Administer Power BI Service, including workspaces, security groups, data gateways, and usage monitoring.
• Provide oversight of Power BI Gateways (On-Premises and VNET-based).
• Enforce governance policies including naming conventions, workspace standards, RLS/OLS, certification, and data retention.
• Manage user provisioning, access controls, and Azure AD security roles.
• Perform long-range environment planning; monitor system health, performance metrics, audit logs, license usage, and compliance.
• Ensure adherence to enterprise data governance, security, and regulatory requirements.

4. SAP S/4HANA Datasphere & Enterprise Analytics

• Lead and oversee reporting and analytics solutions leveraging SAP S/4HANA Datasphere as a core enterprise data layer.
• Partner with SAP and Data Engineering teams to design, validate, and govern semantic models within Datasphere.
• Ensure effective data consumption from SAP S/4HANA into Power BI and other downstream analytics platforms.
• Guide senior developers on Datasphere modeling concepts, data acquisition, views, and performance considerations.
• Ensure alignment between SAP analytics strategy and enterprise BI standards.

5. Business Analysis & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as a strategic partner to business leaders across Bioscience, Lifescience, R&D, Quality, Commercial, and Manufacturing functions.
• Facilitate requirements gathering, process analysis, and documentation of analytics and reporting needs.
• Translate complex scientific and operational processes into analytical models and reporting frameworks.
• Conduct impact assessments, data mapping, workflow analysis, and business case preparation.
• Lead workshops, discovery sessions, and data validation reviews with senior stakeholders.

6. Data Management & Collaboration

• Collaborate with Data Engineering, Application Teams, SAP teams, and Domain SMEs to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and availability.
• Align with Master Data, Data Quality, and Data Governance teams for common definitions and enterprise metrics.
• Support integration of data from ERP (SAP S/4HANA), LIMS, CRM, Scientific Instruments, and Lab Informatics systems.
• Ensure traceability, lineage, and quality of data used for scientific and regulatory decision-making.

7. Domain Expertise: Bioscience & Lifescience

• Leverage domain experience to design reports and KPIs aligned with scientific operations, R&D workflows, product lifecycle, compliance, and manufacturing.
• Understand scientific terminology, lab processes, assay data, clinical workflows, quality compliance, and instrument-generated data.
• Guide teams in interpreting metrics relevant to Bioscience & Lifescience business functions.

• 10+ years of experience in Reporting, BI, Business Analysis, or Data Platforms roles.
• 5+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, leading senior developers.
• Hands-on expertise in:
• Power BI Development (data modeling, DAX, visualizations, UX)
• Power BI Administration (environment planning, workspaces, gateways, RLS, governance)
• SAP S/4HANA Datasphere analytics and data consumption
• Requirements gathering, process mapping, and documentation
• Data analysis and storytelling
• Strong domain knowledge of Bioscience or Lifescience industries.
• Solid understanding of data governance, security, and compliance.
• Experience with Azure, SQL, data warehouses, and enterprise analytics standards.
• Strong communication skills and proven stakeholder management capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Deep experience with SAP S/4HANA, SAP Datasphere, LIMS, ELN, or scientific systems.
• Exposure to PowerShell or automation for administrative tasks.
• Microsoft Certifications (PL-300, PL-600, Power BI Administrator).
• Experience working in Agile delivery models.
