Overview

Waters is currently seeking an Electronics Design Engineer to develop, design and support electronic sub-assemblies on leading edge scientific products. Specifically the engineer will be required to work on FPGA and/or Hardware focused developments of varying complexity which will also include any associated board level aspects required to ensure the correct operation of the FPGA and its firmware. This will require a full FPGA design flow using VHDL and will range from small design and verification tasks through to updates to completely new designs.

The Electronics Design Engineer will follow Waters development process and procedures, and produce good quality documentation to ensure the designs are sustainable going forward.

 

Waters is interested in hearing from and will consider engineers from all levels of experience to fill this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electronic design and development activities in support of current and future Waters Mass Spectrometer Instruments. This will include the full engineering lifecycle from requirements capture through to test and integration, and all associated documentation.
  • Attend and contribute to design reviews both as presenter and reviewer.
  • Support other engineering teams in the integration of modules, subsystems and functions.
  • Provide estimates of engineering effort to assist in the planning and scheduling of activities.
  • Support other Waters electronics design teams across the globe on the development tasks assigned to them. This will require occasional international travel.
  • Provide engineering design support to subcontractors as required.
  • Conduct investigations into product quality or manufacturability problems, and implement any necessary changes, in a timely manner.
  • Keep abreast of developments in electronics and instrumentation. Attend any exhibitions seminars or training courses deemed appropriate.
  • Comply with all requirements of the company quality system.
  • Comply with all workplace related regulations (e.g. Health & Safety at Work, COSHH and the Working Time Directive)
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as defined by the Company

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in electrical/electronic engineering or equivalent combination of qualification and experience
  • Experience in the development of electronic systems and subsystems (Board Level, System, FPGA Firmware, Test and Integration) across the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience of good design process and practice
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to interact and contribute in a team environment
  • The ability and willingness to undertake international travel
  • A flexible work ethic, able to meet demanding timescales.

Desirable

  • Demonstrable experience of FPGA firmware development across multiple vendors and multiple designs
  • Experience implementing embedded MCU cores (eg NIOS, Microblaze)
  • Experience in the development of embedded Software
  • Experience in the use of Labview to aid the automation of hardware testing.
