    Overview

    Develops and applies computer aided design (CAD) methods, theories and techniques in the design and development of complex and detailed layouts by performing the following duties.

    Responsibilities

    Utilizes CAD to complete the engineering design of parts and assemblies for the development and manufacture of company produced scientific instruments; supports design needs from concept through production.

     

    • Gathers information, conceptualizes alternatives and performs appropriate studies/calculations necessary to complete designs.
    • Coordinates activities with responsible Engineering, Manufacturing, Marketing and Service personnel as well as with Drafters and other Designers, as required.
    • Completes detail and assembly drawings, including Engineering Change Orders (ECO), for development and manufacturing needs, including new products, product enhancements/improvements, cost reductions and production tooling.
    • Complies with accepted drafting practices and standards; checks drawings for accuracy and conformance.
    • Performs system management functions, as required, including file maintenance, backup and archiving.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a 4 year degree in Drafting Technology, Engineering or closely related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
    • Experience: 2 – 5 years of related CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)

     

    Language Skills

    Fluent in German And English: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, ISO procedures, design/drafting standards & any adopted EU-Norms / ASME Standards specific to drafting requirements. Ability to understand and provide direction for inputting information (Items & Bills of Material) into the 4th Shift Data Base.

     

    Mathematical Ability

    Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as scaling drawings, selecting reference planes, dimensional schemes, hidden line interpolations & sectioning.

     

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and present practical solutions and alternatives. Other Skills And Abilities.

     

    • Partners with others as an effective team member.
    • Interfaces and communicates well with others and is a good engineering development team player and contributor.
    • Works effectively with manufacturing by providing design and documentation support thru ECO System as well as other requests for design support.
    • Familiar with new or emerging technology in specific areas of assignment.
    • Able to handle non-routine projects and tasks under general supervision.
    • Possesses interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with managers, supervisors, peers, users and vendors.
