    The company is offering a new opportunity for a lawyer to be the Company’s first legal counsel in the India region, based in its office in Bangalore.

    The successful candidate will report to the Head of Legal, Europe (based in the United Kingdom), however, will be required to operate with a significant degree of autonomy, and have responsibility for all key legal matters originating from the Indian region.

    As this is a newly created role, the successful candidate will need to have the confidence and ability to work closely with (and form part of) the Senior Management Team in a professional, collaborative and intelligent manner with a view to establishing and developing the local legal function. The Legal Counsel, India will also be required to work in a fast paced environment while at the same time being diligent and detailed orientated.

    In addition to the establishment of the local function, the successful candidate will be required to advise the business on a variety of matters including:

    • Material commercial contracts – provide strategic legal and business advice on a wide range of commercial agreements, including, supply of goods and supply of services agreements, distribution and agency agreements, marketing agreements, confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements and standard terms and conditions;
    • Risk management – identification and mitigation of potential compliance risks to the organisation which arise from its day to day business operations and collaborating with the Compliance Team in respect of the same;
    • Process – development of processes, policies and standard documents to ensure effective delivery of support to the local organisation; and
    • Training – delivery of relevant legal training to the business.

    • Establishment and development of a legal function in a new territory.
    • Providing strategic legal and business advice on a wide range of matters to business stakeholders.
    • Draft and negotiate a variety of material and strategic commercial agreements.
    • Serve as an interface to various business functions and collaborate with internal clients to effectively balance the goal of minimizing legal risk to the business while supporting and assisting in the achievement of business and strategic objectives.  
    • Effectively manage workflow to meet multiple deadlines, as well as the expectations of internal and external clients.
    • Conduct training to the local business on various legal topics.
    • Provide advice on compliance, risk management and the development of procedures and appropriate risk mitigation measures as well as the resolution of potential compliance issues.
    • Support the European Legal Team in delivering its objectives. In particular, the development of a high quality, responsive and strategically focused legal team.


    • 5 – 8 years post qualification experience and a proven track record either in an in-house environment and private practice.
    • Strong personal communication skills, capable of dealing with a wide range of people.
    • Experience in the scientific instruments business is a plus but not a requirement.
    • Effective planning and organisational skills.
    • Strong team player who is both committed and flexible.
    • Ability to work independently and to deal with legal matters in a practical manner.
    • Excellent commercial contracts experience.
