    Overview

    In the Waters Informatics group, we produce software which is used by people worldwide for specialist measurement and scientific analysis. We are a friendly, supportive, flexible and inclusive organisation, focused on delivering software that makes a real difference to our users. We are currently seeking an Enterprise Software Developer to work in our Enterprise Architecture team.

     

    In this role, you will help define and build our highly scalable enterprise scientific data system, specifically using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration.

    Responsibilities

    • Building a highly scalable enterprise scientific data system in collaboration with other enterprise architecture team members.
    • Hands on software development (C#, .Net Core).
    • Deploying and configuring infrastructure (on-prem & cloud).
    • Implementing highly scalable storage solutions using appropriate technologies (e.g. distributed file system).
    • Continual learning to stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and technologies in enterprise software development.

    Qualifications

    The following are essential for the role:

     

    • Proven experience developing enterprise cross platform applications across Windows and Linux.
    • Detailed understanding of .Net Standard and .Net Core (ideally also ASP.NET Core 2 MVC6).
    • Hands on experience with Docker, both Linux and Windows containers. Ideally Docker-compose also.
    • Appreciation for techniques and patterns for building enterprise / cloud systems with scalable architectures, and ideally data sharding techniques.

     

    Several of the following would be desirable, but are not essential as training would be provided for the right candidate: 

    • Exposure to container orchestration: e.g. Docker Swarm, Kubernetes.
    • Good understanding of networking, network configuration, proxy configuration and load balancing techniques.
    • Cross platform scripting skills in Bash, bat, MS PowerShell.
    • Strong understanding of security including PKI, X509 Certificates, TLS.
    • Exposure to enterprise & cloud scalable storage systems, technologies & architectures.
